Pranayama



Meditation and Pranayama are so intertwined.
Performing
Pranayama before Meditation I
have noticed the effect of my Mantra Chanting
and Meditation improves a lot.My understanding
is we normally breathe through alternate nostrils.
Every person alternates between the right and
left nostrils.2 Hours is the normal duration a
particular nostril is active , than it switches
over to the other one.A single nostril dominating
the Breathing for extended periods of time,that
is more than normal, creates Health problems.
An overactive right Nostril results in Mental
Tension , while a Left Nostril
over working itself
causes Fatigue.

Some people
don't know that they maybe
Reverse Breathing.Normal Breathing being
stomach expanding during inhalation and
contracting during exhalation. Under Stress
some people unknowingly maybe doing
Reverse Breathing. It is a Breathing
Technique used in Yoga and
Qigong
(Chinese Meditative practice) for healing.
In Martial arts this enables the Martial
artist to withstand blows.
Ninja's use a
Breathing technique to become invisible.
Now for a normal person Reverse Breathing
under normal circumstances would be
abnormal. I mean unless you are trying
to become invisible.So watch your breathing.

Pranayama Techniques help in healing
oneself.Not sure about this but Pranayama
may enable breathing through both Nostrils
simultaneously.
There are various Pranayama Techniques.
It would be
advisable to learn them from a
certified Yoga Instructor.Always cross
checking through good books and the
internet Helps a Lot.

Both of them are
synonymous Meditation
Pranayama.
