Today is Mahalaya Amawasya (New Moon or Dark
Moon).A prominent Day in the Hindu Religious
Calender.The full moon has an upward pulling
effect on the Meditation Practitioner.Maybe
stimulates the Kundalini to rise. The Moon
is very significant in Spirituality.Most Great
Sages attained to Enlightenment on a full
Moon.The Great Mahaveer Jain is supposed
to have attained Enlightenment on a New
Moon or Dark Moon or in India -Amawasya-.
That is the reason he is called Mahaveer(Great Hero) .
